The Trusts:

 
The Ngāti Apa ki te Rā Tō Trusts consist of the Ngāti Apa ki te Rā Tō Trust, established to receive and look after settlement redress received from the Crown as part of the iwi's Treaty of Waitangi settlement, and the Ngāti Apa ki te Rā Tō Charitable Trust, a non-profit organisation which supports the operations and aspirations of the iwi. 
 
The Trusts vision is for a responsive and effective organisation that utilises its resources efficiently to meet the needs and aspirations of members, while also providing for future generations. This vision is underlined by 'whāia te iti kahurangi' - the continuous pursuit of excellence.
 
Mō te tūranga mahi - the opportunity:
 
Reporting to the Kaiwhakahaere Matua (General Manager) the Pou Tukanga will provide operational leadership to support the delivery of projects and initiatives across the Trusts cultural, taiao, education, events, and special projects portfolios. The position will foster a cohesive culture and high performing team as well as strengthen and grow capability within the Trusts, on behalf of the iwi.
 
Core functions will include:

  • Maintaining internal and external relationships to ensure opportunities and synergies are maximised to protect and preserve the interests of the Trusts
  • Active monitoring of the operational budgets across the Trusts
  • Providing strategic and tactical advice on non-commercial, cultural, and social development outcomes for iwi members
  • Championing the goal of ‘zero harm’ incidents in the Trusts and ensuring compliance with Health and Safety regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Modelling behaviour and conduct that effectively upholds the mana of Trusts

In summary, the role is multifaceted, requiring a mix of strategic thinking, operational efficiency, financial acumen, and leadership skills. Additionally, the emphasis on external funding relationships and working with iwi members brings a broader community engagement aspect to the role.
 
Mōu - About you
 
Qualifications and experience – relevant tertiary degree in a business field is an advantage but relevant on-the-job experience in operations, leadership and/or management is also acceptable.
 
Financial knowledge - strong financial knowledge and experience and proven ability to drive financial performance and manage budgets. Knowledge of external funding opportunities will be beneficial.
 
Communication and writing skills - excellent communication skills, both verbal and written and the ability to convey information effectively to diverse audiences.
 
Attention to detail - strong attention to detail, crucial for overseeing operational functions and financial matters. Ability review documents efficiently ensuring their professional production.
 
Te Ao Māori competency - experience and/or comfort working in an iwi/Māori environment, good understanding of the Treaty of Waitangi, te reo Māori, and Tikanga Māori.
 
MS office proficiency - highly competent in using MS Office suite for documentation, analysis, and reporting.
 
Additionally, the ability to navigate and excel in a multifaceted role, as well as communicate effectively with various stakeholders, is crucial for success in the position of Pou Tukanga.
 
You must be eligible work permanently in NZ and have valid NZ driver’s licence.
