He Pito Mata

He Pito Mata was composed by Tawaroa Kawana and produced by Matt Sadgrove to celebrate the fifth anniversary of Ngāti Apa ki te Rā Tō's flagship cultural development programme for youth - Mana Rangatahi.

As well as celebrating the Mana Rangatahi wānanga, the song is all about encouraging our rangatahi to learn about their cultural identity and stand proud.

Performed by some of our talented Mana Rangatahi crew, the brainchild of Cultural Advisor Kiley Nepia, filmed by Keelan Walker at Loud Noise Media and recorded by Billy Wilson of After Dark Recordings at their Ruapaka studio.

Kupu

I riro rā ōku whenua
I riro rā tōku reo
Mā wai rā e taurima
Te apa o ōku tīpuna
Mai i te kore, ki te pō,
Ki te whei ao ki te ao mārama
Kua eke te wā, e te iwi kia kaha rā.

Tōku mana
He mana rangatahi
Tōku katoa
Iti noa ana,
HE PITO MATA

Mānawatia te anamata
Mānawatia te ao hou
Tukuna rā ō pūmanawa,
ō pūkenga ki te ao
Te tuangahurutanga,
kia mau ki tō tuakiritanga
Te tau tuarima, rangatahi mā, tūwhitia te hopo.

Tōku mana
He mana rangatahi
Tōku katoa
Iti noa ana,
HE PITO MATA
