The commercial arm of Ngāti Apa ki te Rā Tō is pleased to advise the appointment of Nelson/Tasman business leader Lee Babe to lead the implementation of the iwi’s investment strategy.

The newly created part-time Kaiwhakahaere Matua Pūtea | Commercial investment Manager position is a natural progression for the Ngāti Apa ki te Rā Tō Group following steady growth in its investment portfolio, says Gerrard Wilson, chair of Ngāti Apa ki te Rā Tō Investments Ltd (NAIL) and Ngāti Apa ki te Rā Tō Assets Holding Company Ltd (NAAHC).

“This appointment is a logical next step as our iwi looks to increase its commercial profile and actively target direct investment in Te Tauihu,” says Gerrard. “We are thrilled to have someone of Lee’s calibre join and we are looking forward to building new partnerships to further contribute to the Te Tauihu regional economy.”

Lee is a well-known figure in the Te Tauihu business scene, having formerly led environmental management services firm Nelmac as CEO. He is an experienced trustee and director, serving as chair of the Mahitahi Co-Lab and director of the Nelson Giants. He also sits on the board of violence prevention NPO RISE-livingsafe. Lee takes on this new role in conjunction with his continuing external work as an independent management consultant and director.

Lee resides in Māpua, Tasman with his wife Mel and their son James, and will be a familiar face throughout the rohe, from Kawatiri to Marlborough.
